Short description
The standard deals with the planning of emergency alarm management for the organisational and technical handling of emergency alarms made by persons trapped in lifts. The responsibility of the operators of the lifts is defined by the Ordinance on Industrial Safety and Health (BetrSichV). The employer is responsible for the safe operation of the lift system. Emergency alarm management is to be part of safe operation. The emergency alarm serves to rescue persons who are trapped in the lift system due to malfunctions. The presence of an emergency alarm equipment does not guarantee a safe process to set persons free. Only when employers know the processes for their installations, they can implement effective measures. This standard shows how those responsible for lifts can ensure that no persons are harmed by being locked in lifts for unnecessarily long periods of time due to organisational or technical weaknesses in the process. The standard contributes to sensitising all those involved in the process to prevent risks for lift users. The standard is aimed at employers/operators, building owners, architects, specialist planners, testing organisations, installation/maintenance contractors, and the rescue service.
