The standards of the EN 3745 series describe test methods for optical fibres and cables for aircraft use. The standard DIN EN 3745-510 specifies a method of determining the attenuation variation of an optical cable during mechanical bending under load at the maximum and minimum operating temperatures. The following modifications have been made with respect to DIN EN 3745-510:2012-11: a) the reference to the glass fibers has been omitted in procedure A in 3.2 as the standard only deals with the cable, the attenuation change is to be specified after the windings and the wavelength to be measured as well; b) the use of a ground load to ensure contact between cable and mandrel has been added in procedure B in 3.3; c) a front view has been added to Figure 2 to show the ground bodies to be used; d) the mass load for establishing good contact between mandrel and test specimen has been added in procedure B in 5.2.1; e) in 5.2.2, the measurement of the change in attenuation before winding the test specimen has been omitted and a reference to EN 3745-201 has been added. The standards of the EN 3745 series have been prepared by ASD-STAN, Technical Section Electrics, with the participation of German experts of the Aerospace Standards Committee. The European Committee for Standardization (CEN) declared the Aerospace and Defence Industries Association of Europe (ASD-STAN) responsible for the preparation of European standards (EN) for the field of aerospace. The responsible German standardization committee is Working Committee NA 131-04-10 AA "LWL und LWL-Komponenten" ("LWL and LWL-components") at DIN Standards Committee Aerospace.
