This European Standard is part of the series "Railway applications - Gauges" which consists of the following parts: Part 1: General - Common rules for infrastructure and rolling stock. Part 2: Rolling stock gauge. Part 3: Structure gauges. This standard series is the generic specification for dimensioning of gauges for rolling stock and infrastructure in the railway sector and particularly deals with aspects of interfaces between rolling stock and infrastructure. This document is intended to replace the existing regulations in this area, in particular UIC leaflets of the series 505 and to define a common standard. The document is part of a series which consists of three standards forming the European Standard on rolling stock gauges and structure gauges: This third part contains the rules for dimensioning the infrastructure in order to allow vehicles built according to the relevant gauge and taking account of the specific constraints to operate within it. The first part of this standard series covers general principles, phenomena shared by the infrastructure and by the rolling stock, reference profiles and their associated rules, whereas the second part gives the rules for dimensioning the vehicles according to their specific characteristics for the relevant gauge and for the related calculation method. A structure gauge defines both the space to be kept free and maintained, in order to allow running of rolling stock, and rules for dimensioning and test conditions for vehicle gauges to be used on one or several rail networks without the interference risk. A structure gauge constitutes an explicit agreement between infrastructure operators and vehicle construction. There are normative connections to EN 13232, EN 13803-1, to other parts of the series of standards EN 15273, EN 50119 and EN 50367; there are other essential normative connections to UIC Leaflets, especially of the UIC 505 series. This document also regulates the distribution of responsibilities between the operators of infrastructure and rolling stock. This European Standard defines various profiles needed to install, verify and maintain the various structures near the structure gauge and lists various phenomena for the correspondingly defined structure gauge. A dimensioning method for the various structure gauges with appropriate equations is established. Furthermore, rules concerning the definition of the distance between track centres, the arrangement of the platforms as well as for determining the clearance for the pantographs gauge are specified. This document has been prepared under a mandate given to CEN by the European Commission and the European Free Trade Association, and supports the essential requirements of EU Directive 2008/57/EC.
This document replaces DIN EN 15273-3:2010-11 .
