This European Standard is part of the series "Railway applications - Gauges" which consists of the following parts: Part 1: General - Common rules for infrastructure and rolling stock; Part 2: Rolling stock gauge; Part 3: Structure gauges This document is the generic specification on gauges for rolling stock and infrastructure in the railway sector and deals in particular with aspects of interfaces between rolling stock and infrastructure. There are normative connections to the EN 13232 standard series, to other parts of the EN 15273 standard series and EN 50119 and EN 50367; there are other essential normative connections to UIC Leaflets, especially of the UIC 505 series. This document shall replace existing sets of rules in this field, especially UIC Leaflets of the UIC 505 series and specify a common standard. The document belongs to a series which consists of three standards and forms the European Standard on rolling stock construction gauge and gauges: This third part contains calculation rules for the infrastructure dimensions which are necessary for operating railway vehicles with certain profiles, including the consideration of constraint points. The first part of this standard series contains general issues, elements which act together on the infrastructure and the rolling stock, reference lines and the associated rules, whereas the second part contains rules for the calculation of the loading gauge of the rolling stock depending on the rolling stock characteristics, the chosen profile and the associated calculation methods. A structure gauge defines, on the one hand, a space which shall be kept clear and maintained to enable rail traffic, on the other hand, calculation rules and test conditions for the rolling stock gauges which are used without the risk of contact in one or several networks. A structure gauge presents a clear agreement between the operators of infrastructure and rolling stock. This standard also regulates the distribution of responsibilities between the operators of infrastructure and rolling stock. This standard contains a list of the various European gauges for railway traffic, some of which are intended to ensure interoperability for vehicles which are used in different networks. Other gauges are - without the necessary interoperable use for other networks - linked to specific applications. This European standard defines various profiles needed to install, verify and maintain the various structures near the structure gauge and lists various phenomena for the correspondingly defined structure gauge. It defines a calculation method with the corresponding formulas for the various structure gauges. Furthermore, it lists the rules to determine the distance between the track centres, takes into account the positioning of the platforms and the pantograph gauge. The national annex contains warnings on the application of the standard and corrections regarding the contents of the standard.
