Overview

This standard defines relevant requirements set out in Annex I of the EC Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC, relating to machines which were placed on the European Economic Area (EEA) market for the first time, with the intent of simplifying the means of proving conformity with such requirements. Once this standard is designated a harmonized standard in the Official Journal of the European Communities, a manufacturer applying this standard may assume compliance with the requirements of the Machinery Directive (the so-called presumption of conformity). This document deals with all common significant hazards, hazardous situations and events of the following forestry machinery: fellers, bunchers, delimbers, forwarders, log loaders, skidders, processors and harvesters as defined in ISO 6814 and also multi-function versions of these machines, when they are used as intended and under the conditions foreseen by the manufacturer. The machines listed can be of the mobile, ride-on or self-propelled type or a combination of these types. The significant hazards, such as thrown objects, that may occur on a particular machine, noise and vibration are excluded. Statements regarding noise including a test will be developed as a supplement to this document. The use of this document will therefore not alone be sufficient to cover all significant risks for a majority of machines covered by this standard. The list of significant hazards dealt with in this standard is given in normative Annex A. This list contains the significant hazards that have been identified as common to mobile, ride-on and self-propelled forestry machines. This document does not cover environmental hazards. This standard contains the German version of EN 14861:2004+A1:2009, which has been prepared by CEN/TC 144 "Tractors and machinery for agriculture and forestry - Safety" of the European Committee for Standardization (CEN). This standard differs from DIN EN 14861:2005-02 as follows: a) Subclause 5.2 (Marking) has been brought in line with Directive 2006/42/EC; b) an informative Annex ZB on the relationship between this European Standard and the essential requirements of EU Directive 2006/42/EC has been added. The national interests during the preparation were represented by Committee NA 060-16-30 AA "Landtechnik - Einzelthemen" ("Agricultural engineering - Individual topics") at Technical Section "Agricultural engineering" of the Mechanical Engineering Standards Committee (NAM) at DIN. Representatives of manufacturers of forest machinery, and of the employers' liability insurance associations were involved in the preparation.
