Overview

This standard defines relevant requirements set out in Annex I of the EC Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC, relating to machines which were placed on the European Economic Area (EEA) market for the first time, with the intent of simplifying the means of proving conformity with such requirements. Once this standard is designated a harmonized standard in the Official Journal of the European Communities, the manufacturer applying this standard may assume compliance with the requirements of the Machinery Directive (the so-called presumption of conformity). This International Standard specifies general safety requirements for self-propelled forestry machines and machines configured as forestry machines. It deals with all significant hazards, hazardous situations and events common to fellers, bunchers and delimbers, forwarders, log loaders, skidders, processors, harvesters, mulchers and multi-function versions of these machine types, as described in ISO 6814, when used as intended and under conditions of misuse which are reasonably foreseeable by the manufacturer. It does not deal with hazards specific to individual machines, such as those related to specific attachments. Therefore, the use of this standard will not alone be sufficient to address all significant hazards for a majority of the machines it covers. The standard does not deal with hazards related to chain shot, chain breakage on the upper side of the bar, lifting operation, remote control operation, the need for work lights or road safety. For vibration measurement, the test setup and work cycles are not dealt with. The verification method for noise measurement is also not addressed. It is not applicable to hazards related to maintenance or repairs carried out by professional service personnel. The list of significant hazards dealt with is given in Annex A. This International Standard is not applicable to machines manufactured before its date of publication. This standard contains the German version of EN ISO 11850:2011 which has been prepared by Technical Committee ISO/TC 23 "Tractors and machinery for agriculture and forestry" in collaboration with Technical Committee CEN/TC 144 "Tractors and machinery for agriculture and forestry" at the European Committee for Standardization (CEN). The following modifications have been made with respect to DIN EN ISO 14864:2011-06 as follows: a) the standard has been technically revised; b) normative references have been updated; c) addition of a normative Annex ZB on the relationship between this European Standard and the Essential Requirements of EU Directive 2006/42/EC. During the preparation of the standard, the national interests were represented by Working Committee NA 060-16-30 AA "Einzelthemen" ("Individual issues") of the Normengruppe Landtechnik ("Agricultural Engineering Standards Group") of the Mechanical Engineering Standards Committee (NAM) at DIN. Representatives of the interested parties were involved in the preparation of this standard. Previous edition: DIN EN 14684:2011-06.
