Short description
The standard describes the use of plant bioindicators (grass culture according to VDI 3957 Part 2 as well as curly kale according to VDI 3957 Part 3 and Part 4) in the area of emission sources. It defines minimum requirements and quality standards in order to identify relevant immission effects as accumulations, to determine the impact area of an emission source and, if necessary, to differentiate it from other emission sources, as well as to assess a hazard to protected resources. The determination of the immission-related pollutant contents in the grass culture as a representative of fodder plants and curly kale plants as a representative of foodstuffs establishes the relationship to the protected resources animals and humans. Point sources as well as line and area sources can be considered as emission sources. In this standard, the procedure is described for a point source. In principle, however, the procedure can also be applied to line and area sources and needs to be adapted accordingly for this case. This standard is addressed to operators of installations, licensing and monitoring authorities and, in particular, to implementing users such as environmental engineering offices.
