Short description
Not all vehicle bodies are suitable for transporting beverage products safely. This guideline applies firstly to particularly robust vehicles constructed on the basis of DIN EN 12642 Code XL for transporting beverages and secondly to securing beverage product cargoes on vehicles with standard bodies. It is intended for the use of consignors, shippers, drivers, vehicle owners, and such persons as the law, ordinances, contracts or other codes of practise make responsible for securing the load and for safe transportation. The areas of responsibility derive from national regulations, statutory provisions and also from the corresponding legislation and regulations in other countries in the case of international transportation and also comply with accepted engineering practice. This guideline does not apply to transportation by rail, sea or air nor does it apply in the case of a combination of modes of transportation where special provisions apply; for example, guideline VDI 2700 Part 7 (Securing of loads in combined freight transport) or DIN EN 283 (Swap bodies) or the cargo securement regulations of Railion Deutschland AG. It is not possible to provide a comprehensive treatment of the large number of beverage packing units, nor the wide variety of load-securing methods and vehicle variants. For this reason, means of securing loads which are demonstrably equivalent or which provide better load securing can also be used. The maximum inertial forces to be applied for securing the load during driving must be supportable. The foundations of the present guideline are the VDI 2700 series of guidelines and guideline VDI 3968.
