Overview

The use of DIN EN ISO 12100 and DIN EN ISO 13849-1 has shown that readers of these documents have experienced difficulty in understanding how these two documents work together. Both standards are used to reduce the risk of harm. This specification in accordance with the Technical Report procedure focuses on the use of safety-related parts of control systems in relation to risk assessment and the risk reduction process and shall guide readers in how the two standards are to be used to achieve tolerable risk for a machine in general and for the safety-related parts of the control system, in particular. The DIN Specification contains the German translation of ISO/TR 22100-2:2013 which has been prepared by Technical Committee ISO/TC 199 "Safety of machinery" (secretariat: DIN, Germany) of the International Organization of Standardization (ISO). The responsible German committee is Joint Working Committee NA 095-01-01 GA "Allgemeine Grundsätze und Terminologie" ("General principles and terminology") of the Safety Design Principles Standards Committee (NASG) with the NAM and DKE at DIN.
