Overview

This DIN Specification (DIN SPEC) according to the pre-standard procedure is the German version of the Technical Specification CEN/TS 15989 which has been prepared by Technical Committee CEN/TC 192 "Fire service equipment" (secretariat: BSI, United Kingdom) of the European Committee for Standardization (CEN). The responsible German mirror committee, Working Committee NA 031-04-01 AA "Begriffe und Bildzeichen" ("Terms and pictograms")is supervised by the DIN Standards Committee Firefighting and Fire Protection (FNFW). CEN/TS 15989 specifies graphical symbols for controls and displays as well as markings specifically for firefighting and rescue service vehicles and equipment. The table shows the designations and illustrations of the symbols, which are subdivided as follows: - general symbols for specific symbols in Nos. 3.3 to 3.12; - basic symbols and basic symbol shapes for specific symbols in Nos. 3.3 to 3.12; - frame, engine and chassis; - support; - electrics; - fire-extinguishing agent; - pumps and compressors; - fire-extinguishing agent tanks and pipes; - pressure vessels; - hydraulic platforms; - miscellaneous; - firefighting equipment. By definition, graphic symbols are visually perceptible pictorial representations with a specific meaning that serve to convey information independently of language. The most significant changes to the previous first edition of CEN/TS 15989 from 2010 are given below: - number of DIN specification (DIN SPEC) changed; - added general requirements, customization of symbols such as digital display symbols and application presets; - added clause with requirements on designation, representation and size of symbols; - increased number of graphic symbols in Table 1, some symbols have been revised in presentation and designation and partially harmonized with the FAMA White Paper, graphical symbols for automotive fire apparatus; - general (basic) symbols are first listed in Table 1, 3.1 and 3.2 and partly repeated in the specific sections of Table 1 to obtain the context of this document; - deleted symbol colouring in Table 1 and mentioned in the new Normative Annex A; - added a recommendation on the colour scheme of controls and external connections in the new Informative Annex B.
