Overview

During the processing of patient specimens in the mycobacteriological laboratory, contaminations of specimens with dead or living mycobacteria from reagent solutions or so-called cross-contaminations with dead or living mycobacteria between different specimens may occur. The prevention of these laboratory contaminations is dealt with in this supplement to standard DIN 58943-4. These contaminations can lead to false test results, thus having serious consequences for the patients concerned, the social milieu, the laboratory involved and its personnel. Detailed instructions for the prevention, detection and evaluation of laboratory contaminations of patient specimens during the processing in the laboratory shall be taken from the supplement to DIN 58943-4.
