This standard is applicable to shots of chain cable of Grade GL-K3 with the nominal sizes 16 up to 90, which are used on board of vessels at ambient temperatures ≥ -20 °C. Extensive modifications have been made with respect to VG 84501:1998-03, for example, the series of nominal size has been increased up to 90, and calculation bases have been added. Within the framework of the revision of the standards on stud link anchor chain cables it has become absolutely necessary to revise this standard. An important reason is that anchor chain cables of Grade GL-K2 (VG 84501-1:1989) do not correspond to the current state-of-art with regard to size, materials and masses. This standard describes the requirements for shots of Grade GL-K3. According to the nominal size, a table lists shots, masses and numbers of common stud links, amongst others. In Annex A (informative), the calculation bases are given. These calculation bases include the nominal size, pitch, number of common stud links, mass determination as well as calculation of the minimum, mean and maximum values of each measuring length.
