This standard contains essential safety instructions for the possible use of a call system in distributed alarm systems in healthcare facilities, care and monitoring institutions. This standard applies to the planning, installation, modification, extension and testing as well as to the operation of call systems with the help of which persons can be summoned or searched for; furthermore, additional information can be transmitted. These systems are characterized by a greater or lesser degree of danger to the caller or third parties if calls are not signaled as a result of a fault or faults are not detected in good time. The standard applies to call systems in, among other places: a) hospitals, nursing homes, care stations; b) homes for the elderly or senior citizens, rehabilitation facilities; c) publicly accessible toilets for the disabled; d) psychiatric and forensic facilities; e) correctional institutions and in all comparable facilities. The responsible committee is DKE/UK 713.2 "Allgemeine Signalanlagen und Signalgeräte" ("General signalling systems and signalling devices") of the DKE (German Commission for Electrical, Electronic and Information Technologies) at DIN and VDE.
