This standard specifies the general requirements for periodic testing of equipment for in-vivo monitoring (whole body and partial-body counters; also called incorporation monitors), with which it is intended to detect trace amounts of radionuclides in the body of persons working or present in areas with a potential incorporation risk by artificial or natural radionuclides or living in areas which could be contaminated by naturally occurring or artificial radionuclides. The requirements of this standard are applicable for permanently installed equipment and equipment installed in vehicles. Depending on the measuring geometry, which is dependent on the type of apparatus and the organ to be examined, the person to be monitored stands upright, sits or lies down. The general requirements for the design, performance characteristics and test methods for the given measuring devices are specified in DIN EN 61582 (VDE 0493-23). The responsible Committee is Joint Subcommittee GUK 967.2 "Aktivitätsmessgeräte für den Strahlenschutz" ("Radiation protection instrumentation") of the DKE (German Commission for Electrical, Electronic and Information Technologies) at DIN and VDE (www.dke.de), collaborating with the Radiology Standards Committee (NAR) at DIN.
