Overview

This standard is applicable for the selection of equipment for disconnecting, switching, control and monitoring and their erection. This selection is made to ensure safety measures and the function of electrical installations. With respect to DIN VDE 0100-530 (VDE 0100-530):2005-06, the following essential modifications have been made: a) requirements for the switching sequence of contacts of multipolar devices and the requirements for the test equipment of residual current devices (RCDs) have been adjusted to the technical state of equipment standards; b) it is mandatory that the equipment is fitted with a suitable device for protection against electric shock by automatic disconnection; c) automatic re-connection is only permitted in areas where exclusively BA4 persons (electro-technically trained persons) and BA5 (qualified electricians) have access; d) the requirements for the selection of residual current devices (RCDs) for additional protection have been newly fundamentally regulated; e) stationary, voltage-independent residual current devices (RCDs) in socket-outlet executions in accordance with DIN VDE 0664 (VDE 0664) are permitted for additional protection; f) higher-frequency components of current and possible d.c. components shall now also be assessed during the selection of protection and monitoring devices; g) arc fault detection devices (AFDD) have been added. The requirements are still currently under consultation; h) new and other editions of equipment standards (for instance, main circuit-breakers, residual current devices (RCDs) of type B+) are given; i) for industrial applications, modular residual current devices (MRCDs) in accordance with DIN EN 60947-2 (VDE 0660-101):2002-09, Annex M have been incorporated. The responsible Committee is K 221 "Elektrische Anlagen und Schutz gegen elektrischen Schlag" ("Electric installations and protection against electric shock") of the DKE (German Commission for Electrical, Electronic and Informational Technologies) at DIN and VDE.
