Overview

This part of the DIN VDE 0100 (VDE 0100) series of standards for protection against thermal effects in low-voltage installations contains measures for the protection of persons, livestock and property - against thermal effects, combustion or degradation of materials, as well as fire hazards, originating from electrical equipment, - in the event of fire, against the spread of flames and smoke from electrical installations into adjacent fire compartments, and - against the impairment of the safe functioning of electrical equipment including safety services. The inclusion of additional requirements for automatic disconnection for dangerous arcs with arc fault detection devices (AFDD) is intended to ensure enhanced preventive protection against fires, thereby contributing to a significant reduction in fatal accidents and injuries. In addition to the inclusion of requirements for automatic disconnection in the event of dangerous arcs with arc fault detection devices (AFDD), an informative National Annex "Information on the Euroclasses of cables and conductors according to Regulation (EU) No. 305/2011 (Construction Products Regulation)" as well as notes in the National Foreword on the intended adaptation of the Special National Conditions, A-deviations and B-deviations for Germany have been included compared to DIN VDE 0100-420 (VDE 0100-420):2013-02, among other things. The responsible committee is DKE/UK 221.2 "Schutz gegen thermische Auswirkungen/Sachschutz" ("Protection against thermal effects/protection of goods") of the DKE (German Commission for Electrical, Electronic and Information Technologies) at DIN and VDE.
