This International Standard specifies requirements for low-pressure hose assemblies intended for use with medical gases and to provide vacuum. In particular, it is intended to ensure gas specificity and to prevent cross-connections between systems transporting various gases or providing vacuum. Besides the general requirements, for example regarding risk management, safety and usability, this standard gives special requirements for the design of low-pressure hose assemblies. The latter include, for example, specifications regarding the internal diameter, mechanical strength, flexibility and resistance to occlusion. These specifications are supplemented with test methods. In addition, specifications regarding labels, colour coding and packaging as well as manufacturer's information have been incorporated into this standard. In comparison to DIN EN ISO 5359:2012-04, requirements for dimensions and allocation of screw-threaded connectors have been replaced by references to separate standards. The non-interchangeable screw-threaded (NIST) connectors used in Europe will be covered by DIN EN ISO 18082 in future. This standard has been prepared by Technical Committee CEN/TC 215 "Respiratory and anaesthetic equipment" (secretariat: BSI, United Kingdom) in collaboration with ISO/TC 121/SC 1 "Breathing attachments and anaesthetic machines" (secretariat: DIN, Germany) with the participation of German experts. The responsible German committee is Working Committee NA 053-03-06 AA "Zentrale Gasversorgungsanlagen" ("Central gas supply systems") of the Rescue Services and Hospital Standards Committee (NARK) at DIN.
