The European Standard is a new edition. It defines the conditions that water meters shall meet in order to comply with statutory metrology requirements in the countries where these meters are subject to state supervision. This European Standard also applies to water meters that function electrically or electronically and to water meters based on mechanical principles incorporating electronic devices, used to meter the volume flow of hot water and cold potable water. It also applies to electronic ancillary devices. As a rule ancillary devices are optional. However, national or international regulations may make some ancillary devices mandatory in relation to the utilization of the water meter. The responsible committees are CEN/TC 92 "Water meters" (secretariat SNV, Switzerland) and, at the national level, DIN-DVGW Joint Working committee NA 119-07-08 AA "Wassermessung" ("Water metering") at DIN Standards Committee Water Practice (NAW).
