This standard specifies relevant requirements of Annex I of the EU Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC for machines placed on the market for the first time in the European Economic Area (EEA) in order to facilitate the demonstration of conformity with these requirements. This International Standard deals with the significant hazards, hazardous situations and events as listed in Clause 4 which are relevant to stationary and displaceable hand fed single spindle vertical moulding machines (with or without demountable power feed unit), herein after referred to as "machines", designed to cut solid wood and material with similar physical characteristics to wood when they are operated, adjusted and maintained as intended and under the conditions foreseen by the manufacturer including reasonably foreseeable misuse. Also, transport, assembly, dismantling, disabling and scrapping phases are taken into account. The machine may also be fitted with one or more of the following devices/additional working units, whose hazards have been dealt with: a) device for the arbor to be vertically adjustable relative to the table; b) device to tilt the arbor; c) device to fit a manually operated tenoning sliding table; d) glass bead saw unit; e) adjustable table insert. This International Standard does not apply to: 1) - machines equipped with outboard bearings; 2) - machines equipped with powered movements of a front extension table and/or a tenoning sliding table; 3) hand-held woodworking machines, including those devices that allow their use in another manner, such as in a stationary device; 4) transportable/movable machines (machines that are placed on a work surface or equipped with extendable legs and are intended to be operated in a stationary manner) with a rated input power of less than or equal to 3 700 W. This document is not applicable to machines - intended for use in potentially explosive atmospheres; or to machines manufactured prior to the date of its publication as an International Standard. This standard includes the German version of prEN ISO 19085-6 prepared by Technical Committee ISO/TC 39/SC 4 "Woodworking machines" in collaboration with Technical Committee CEN/TC 142 "Woodworking machines - Safety" of the European Committee for Standardization (CEN). The standard differs from DIN EN 848-1:2013-01 as follows: a) the standard has been completely newly drafted as a part subsequent to, and complementing, DIN EN ISO 19085-1; b) the standard has been updated and brought in line with the state of the art. The national interests during the preparation were represented by NA 060-06-01 AA "Holzbearbeitungsmaschinen - Sicherheit" ("Woodworking machines - Safety") of Technical Section "Holzbearbeitungsmaschinen" ("Woodworking machines") at DIN Standards Committee Mechanical Engineering (NAM). Representatives of manufacturers and users of single spindle vertical moulding machines, as well as representatives of professional and trade associations are involved in the preparation of the standard.
