This standard includes the German version of the European Standard EN ISO 1680 from 2013. It covers all the specifications necessary to carry out efficiently and under standardized conditions the determination, declaration, and verification of the noise emission characteristics of rotating electrical machines. It specifies basic noise measurement methods that can be used, and specifies the operating and mounting conditions required for the measurements. Noise emission characteristics include the sound power level and emission sound pressure level. The determination of these quantities is necessary - for comparing the noise emitted by machines, - to enable manufacturers to declare the noise emitted, and - for the purposes of noise reduction. The use of this standard ensures the reproducibility of the determination of the noise emission characteristics within specified limits determined by the grade of accuracy of the basic noise measurement method used. Compared with DIN EN ISO 1680:2000, the following modifications has been made: a) the definitions of sound pressure level and sound power level have been brought in line with the revised basic standards; b) Figure 1 regarding "Fields of application for sound power determination methods using an enveloping measurement surface" has been brought in line with the revised basic standards and grade of accuracy 1 has been added; c) alternative tonality tests have been included to measure the noise emitted; d) clauses relating to the measurement uncertainty and noise declaration have been brought in line with the revised basic standards; e) an option for alternative methods for the determination of the emission sound pressure level has been included; f) Annex A (Overview of standards for the determination of sound power levels of machines and equipment) has been supplemented to include DIN EN ISO 9614-3; g) the values given in Annex B have been rounded to whole numbers; h) normative references have been updated and supplemented. The International Standard ISO 1680:2013, which is the basis for the present standard, has been prepared by ISO/TC 43/SC 1 "Noise" (secretariat: DS, Denmark) with German collaboration. At European level, CEN/TC 211 "Acoustics" is responsible for this standard. The responsible national body is Working Committee NA 001-01-04 AA "Geräuschemission von Maschinen und Anlagen; Messung, Minderung, Datensammlung" ("Noise emission of machinery and equipment; measurement, reduction, data collection") at the DIN and VDE Standards Committee Acoustics, noise control and vibration engineering (NALS).
