Overview

This International Standard has been prepared by ISO/TC 106/SC 3/WG 2 "Revision of ISO 1942" (secretariat: AFNOR, France) in collaboration with CEN/TC 55 "Dentistry" (secretariat: DIN, Germany). The responsible committee at DIN is Working Group NA 014-00-21-01 "Terminologie dentaler Implantatsysteme" ("Terminology for dental implant systems") of the Working Committee NA 014-00-21 AA "Dentalimplantate" ("Dental implants") of NADENT. This standard contains terms and definitions for numerous concepts specific to dentistry in the interest of facilitating the development and comprehension of standards, and to improve communication with the World Dental Federation (Fédération Dentaire Internationale (FDI)), the World Health Organization (WHO) and other interested organisations. Concepts specified by terms and corresponding definitions are incorporated into the standard if they - are specific for dentistry - achieve a high level of conformity - are required for the preparation and/or comprehension of more than one standard document in the field of dentistry or for the development and/or comprehension of conditions, instructions for use, brochures - facilitate the communication with other interested organisations Concepts specified by terms and corresponding definitions are excluded from the scope of this standard if they - are self-explaining terms - are required for the preparation and/or understanding of only one standard document in the field of dentistry The individual terms and definitions are given in the following order: 1. preferred term (in bold type, mandatory) 2. acronyms and abbreviations (in bold type, optional) 3. synonyms (in normal type, optional) 4. symbols (in italic type, optional) 5. deprecated terms (in normal type, in brackets, optional) 6. corresponding definition (in normal type, mandatory)
