Overview

The standard relates to the general procedures of application of thermally sprayed coatings as defined in DIN EN 657. The purpose of these coatings is either to reclaim worn and non-conforming parts or to enhance the surface properties of components for specific purposes. Therewith, for example, wear resistance, low coefficient of friction, electrical or thermal conductivity or insulation, and resistance to corrosion can be achieved. This standard is not intended to provide definitive methods for specific work. Attention shall be paid to the proper selection of process and materials for the purpose and to the skills of the thermal sprayer as defined in DIN EN ISO 14918. With respect to DIN EN ISO 14921:2001-11, the following changes have been made: - normative references in clause 2 have been updated; - clause 3 (Terms and definitions) has been added; - clause 3 (Component and coating design considerations), now clause 4, has been completely restructured; - a reference to EN 15520 (recommendations for design) has been incorporated in clause 4 (Preliminary machining by turning, milling or grinding), now clause 5; - clause 8 (Inspection after spraying), now clause 9, has been reformulated and supplemented by a reference to ISO 14923 (Characterization and testing of thermally sprayed coatings); - a reference to ISO 14924 (Post-treatment and finishing of thermally sprayed coatings) has been added in clause 10 (Finishing), now clause 11; - Annex C (Example of a procedure qualification) has been revised and supplemented; - clause "Bibliography" has been added. The European Standard has been prepared by CEN/TC 240 "Thermal spraying and thermal sprayed coatings". The responsible German standardization committee is DIN/DVS Joint Committee NA 092-00-14 AA "Thermisches Spritzen und thermisch gespritzte Schichten (DVS AG V 7)" ("Thermal spraying and thermal sprayed coatings (DVS AG V 7)") at NAS.
