This part of ISO 148 applies to the Charpy pendulum impact (U-notch and V-notch) test methods for metallic materials for determining the absorbed energy. This part of ISO 148 does not apply to instrumented impact testing, which is specified in ISO 14556. The text of ISO 148-1:2009 has been prepared by Technical Committee ISO/TC 164/SC 4 "Toughness testing - Fracture (F), Pendulum (P), Tear (T)" of the International Organisation for Standardization (ISO) and has been adopted as EN ISO 148-1:2010 by Technical Committee ECISS/TC 101 "Prüfverfahren für Stahl (andere als chemische Analysen") ("Test methods for steel (other than chemical analysis)") (formed by the combination of the previous ECISS/TC 1 "Steel - Mechanical testing" and ECISS/TC 2 "Steel - Physico-chemical and non-destructive testing" since 01.01.2010). The responsible German committee is Working Committee NA 062-01-44 AA "Schlagzähigkeitsprüfung für Metalle" ("Impact testing of metals") at the Materials Testing Standards Committee (NMP) at DIN.
