This International Standard specifies the ISO method for determining the fracture toughness of homogeneous metallic materials under quasi-static loading. For this purpose, specimens that are notched and precracked by fatigue are subjected to slowly increasing crack displacement force. This document (EN ISO 12737:2010) has been prepared by ISO/TC 164 "Mechanical testing of metals", Subcommittee 4 "Toughness testing - Fracture (F), Pendulum (P), Tear (T)", the secretariat of which is held by ANSI (United States of America) and has been adopted by ECISS/TC 101 "Test methods for steel (other than chemical analysis)", the secretariat of which is held by AFNOR (France). The responsible German standardization committee is NA 062-01-46 AA "Bruchmechanik" ("Fracture mechanics") at the Materials Testing Standards Committee (NMP).
This document replaces DIN EN ISO 12737:2005-10 .
