The content of this standard provides the design rules, calculations and tests for lift components, the requirements of which are specified in other standards of the series EN 81. Therefore this standard can only be used in conjunction with the standards for specific lift types, for example EN 81-20 for passenger and goods lifts. This is the first edition of the standard. It supersedes EN 81-1 and EN 81-2 and shall be given the status of a harmonized standard. This document, in conjunction with prEN 81-20:2011 supersedes EN 81-1:1998+A3:2009 and EN 81-2:1998+A3:2009. The national interests during the preparation have been represented by Working Committee NA 060-33-01 AA "Aufzüge (SpA CEN/TC 10 und ISO/TC 178)" at DIN Standards Committee Mechanical Engineering (NAM). Representatives of the manufacturers and users of machinery and equipment as well as professional associations are involved in the preparation.
