Overview

This standard applies to electrically connected series hybrid systems with on-board energy storage. A hybrid system has at least two power sources, including an on-board energy storage system (ESS), as primary and secondary energy sources to achieve, among other things, improved power and fuel efficiency, improved acceleration, reduced fuel consumption, reduced emissions and reduced environmental impact through a combination of power converters and motors and energy management control. This standard aims to specify basic requirements, characteristics, functions and test methods for hybrid systems. It covers the interfaces of external electrical power supply systems, on-board ESS, fuel cells, diesel-electric generators and other power sources. The responsible committee is DKE/UK 351.1 "Fahrzeuge" ("Rolling stock") of the DKE (German Commission for Electrical, Electronic and Information Technologies) at DIN and VDE.
