This part of IEC 62271 applies to single-phase and three-phase direct connections between gas-insulated metal-enclosed switchgear (GIS) for rated voltages above 52 kV and transformer arrangements to establish electrical and mechanical interchangeability and to determine the limits of supply of for the transformer connection. Direct connections are immersed on one end in the transformer oil or insulating gas and on the other end in the insulating gas of the switchgear. IEC 62271-211:2014 will replace IEC/TR 61639:1996. It is a technical revision which includes the following essential technical modifications with respect to the previous edition: a) transition from Technical Report to International Standard; b) the lowest rated voltage value has been modified from 72,5 kV to 52 kV; c) normative references have been updated; d) the term insulated connection/coupling including limitation of supply has been introduced; e) the dielectric testing of gas-insulated metal-enclosed switchgear for transformer connections in three-phase enclosures has been specified; f) tolerances of the contact face on the transformer side have been added; g) tolerances of the transformer in operation have been added; h) accidental loads for flange bushings have been added; i) oil and gas insulated transformers have been taken into account; j) three-phase enclosed direct connections have been included. The responsible committee is DKE/UK 432.2 "Typgeprüfte Hochspannungs-Schaltanlagen" ("Type-tested controlgear") of the DKE (German Commission for Electrical, Electronic and Information Technologies) at DIN and VDE.
