The shielded method for measuring screening attenuation according to IEC 62153-4-4 (triaxial method) has been extended by taking the special features of electrically short elements such as connectors and assembled cables into account. As a result of the concentric outer tube of the triaxial test equipment, the measurements are independent of environmental irregularities and external electromagnetic fields. By using an additional resonator tube (inner tube or tube within a tube, respectively), a system is created in which the shielding effect of an electrically short component is measured under realistic and controlled conditions. In addition, a lower cut-off frequency for the transition from electrically short (coupling resistance) to electrically long (shielding attenuation) can be achieved. A wide dynamic and frequency range can also be achieved for testing highly shielded connectors and assembled cables, using normal technical equipment from low frequencies up to the limit of the specified transverse waves in the outer circuit at about 4 GHz. The responsible committee is DKE/K 412 "Kommunikationskabel (Kabel, Leitungen, Wellenleiter, Lichtwellenleiter, Komponenten, Zubehör und Anlagentechnik für die Nachrichten- und Informationsübertragung" ("Communication cables (cables, conductors, waveguides, fibre optic cables, components, accessories and systems technology for communication and data transmission") of the DKE (German Commission for Electrical, Electronic and Information Technologies) at DIN and VDE.
