This standard applies for system tests for high-voltage direct current (HVDC) installations consisting of a transmitting terminal and a receiving terminal which are each connected to an AC power system. The tests specified in this standard are based on bidirectional and bipolar HVDC installations consisting of a transmitting terminal and a receiving terminal which are each connected to an AC power system. The test requirements and acceptance criteria for close couplers should be agreed upon, whereas multi-terminal transmission systems and voltage intermediate circuit converters are not dealt with in this standard. With the exception of the bipolar tests, this standard applies for monopoly HVDC installations. According to the requirements of the Technical Specification, certain additional testing aspects which are not included in this standard should be added for special functions or a special performance which is/are required for special projects. This standard only serves as a guideline for system tests for HVDC installations. It provides potential users with guidance for the planning of the measures for commissioning. The tests described in the guideline are occasionally not applicable for all projects, but they indicate a range of possible tests which should be taken into consideration. Therefore, project design and development offices should plan an own test programme based on this guideline, if possible, and assign beforehand the areas of responsibility for various tasks/tests between the organizations involved (for example, user, supplier, manufacturer, operator, purchaser, etcetera) for every special project. The responsible Committee is K 331 "Leistungselektronik" ("Power electronics") of the DKE (German Commission for Electrical, Electronic and Information Technologies) of DIN and VDE.
