This part of IEC 61300 describes the procedure for determining the suitability of a fibre optic device to withstand the environmental condition of a bending moment which can occur in actual use, storage and/or transport. The test is primarily intended to permit the observation of effects of a bending moment. The bending moment can result in effects that would destroy functional utility, cause loss of physical strength, and cause changes in other important mechanical properties. Degradation of optical properties can also occur. The specimen may be a component, a connector set, a splice or other device combination intended for fibre optic usage. This standard is intended for manufacturers and test laboratories. The responsible committee is DKE/UK 412.7 "LWL-Verbindungstechnik und passive optische Komponenten" ("Fibre optic interconnecting devices and passive components") of the DKE (German Commission for Electrical, Electronic and Information Technologies) at DIN and VDE.
This document replaces DIN EN 61300-2-7:1998-09 .
