This part of IEC 60862 specifies the methods of test and general requirements for SAW filters of assessed quality using either capability approval or qualification approval procedures. Surface acoustic wave (SAW) filters are filters based on one or more surface acoustic wave transmission line or resonant elements, where the surface acoustic wave is usually generated by an interdigital transducer and propagates along a material surface. Surface acoustic wave filters shall be clearly and permanently marked with designation of the model as indicated in the detail specification, nominal frequency in kilohertz (kHz) or megahertz (MHz), year and week of manufacture, mark of conformity (unless a certificate of conformity is issued), factory identification code, manufacturer's name or logo, and terminal identification (if applicable) in the order indicated. Where possible, they shall be marked with as much additional information as electrical terminal designation (if applicable), serial number (if applicable), and surface mount component classification (if applicable) as possible and as deemed necessary. If the available surface area of miniature SAW filters limits the scope of the marking, then the marking information shall be included in the detail specification. The primary packaging of SAW filters shall be clearly marked with the information listed and, if required, with a marking indicating that it is an electrostatic sensitive device. Two procedures are available for the recognition of SAW filters with assessed quality: capability approval and design approval. In order to obtain recognition for SAW filters capability approval and design approval may be used. These procedures correspond to the procedures specified in the established quality assessment system. Capability approval shall be applied when structurally similar SAW filters are manufactured based on the same design rules using a number of the same procedures. Within the scope of capability approval design specifications are divided into three categories, test samples for verification of capability, standard catalogue parts and custom SAW filters. For capability qualifying components, a design specification shall be prepared for each CQC that shall state the purpose of the CQC and include all applicable stresses and test limits. For standard catalog parts, a design specification shall be prepared according to the design specification form. For the customized SAW filters, the content of the design specification shall be agreed between the manufacturer and the customer according to the established quality assessment system. Further information on design specifications is contained in the sectional specification. The product and capability qualifying components (CQCs) are tested in combination and approval given to a manufacturing facility on the basis of validated design rules, processes and quality control procedures. Qualification approval shall be applied to components manufactured in accordance with a general design guideline and an established manufacturing process and conforming to a published detail specification. The programme of tests defined in the detail specification for the appropriate assessment and severity level applies directly to the SAW filter to be recognized, as defined in this document and in the sectional specification. Test and measurement procedures shall be performed in accordance with the appropriate detail specification. Unless otherwise specified, all tests shall be performed at normal climate for tests according to IEC 60068-1:2013. The responsible committee is DKE/K 642 "Piezoelektrische Bauteile zur Frequenzstabilisierung und -selektion" ("Piezoelectric and dielectric devices for frequency control and selection") of the DKE (German Commission for Electrical, Electronic and Information Technologies) at DIN and VDE.
