This part of DIN EN 60793 establishes uniform requirements for measuring the cut-off wavelength of single-mode optical fibres, thereby assisting in the inspection of fibres and cables for commercial purposes. The test procedures according to this standard describe methods for measuring the cut-off wavelength of fibres and cables. They apply to all category B and category C fibre types. All methods require a reference measurement. There are two reference-scan techniques, either or both of which may be used, the bend-reference technique or the multimode-reference technique using category A1 multimode fibre. The responsible committee is Subcommittee UK 412.6 "Lichtwellenleiter und Lichtwellenleiterkabel" ("Fibres and cables") of the DKE (German Commission for Electrical, Electronic and Information Technologies) at DIN and VDE.
