The methods described in this International Standard relate to the detection and determination of specified additives in unused and used mineral insulating oils. These detection methods can also be used to determine whether mineral insulating oil contains an additive corresponding to the specifications of the supplier. The methods of determination are used for quantitative determinations of additives which are known to be present, or have been previously identified by an appropriate detection method. This International Standard does not claim to deal with all safety problems which could occur in association with its use. It is the responsibility of the user of this standard to develop and use appropriate health and safety methods, and to identify appropriate regulatory limitations prior to its use. The mineral insulating oils which are the subject of this standard shall be handled with due attention to personal hygiene. Direct contact with the eyes can cause slight irritations. In the case of contact with the eyes, rinsing with abundant quantities of clean, flowing water shall be performed, and medical help shall be sought out. Some of the methods which are referred to in this standard include the application of processes which could lead to hazardous situations. Therefore, each standard consulted for instruction is explicitly referred to. This standard takes mineral oils, chemicals and used sample containers into consideration. The disposal of these materials shall take place in conformity with the local regulations and under consideration of the environmental influence. All precautionary measures shall be met in order to avoid release of mineral oil into the environment. The responsible Committee is K 182 "Flüssigkeiten und Gase für elektrotechnische Anwendung" ("Fluids and gases for electrotechnical applications") of the DKE (German Commission for Electrical, Electronic and Informational Technologies) at DIN and VDE.
