This standard applies to fixed aluminium electrolytic capacitors with solid (MnO2) and non-solid electrolyte primarily intended for d.c. applications for use in electronic equipment. It covers capacitors for long-life applications and capacitors for general-purpose applications. Capacitors for fixed surface mount aluminium electrolytic capacitors are not included but they are covered by IEC 60384-18. Capacitors for special-purpose applications may need additional requirements. This standard specifies the preferred ratings and characteristics for the type of capacitors described, selects the appropriate quality assessment procedures, tests and measurement methods from IEC 60384-1:2016 and specifies general requirements for performance. In detail specifications that refer to this sectional specification the severity levels of the tests and the requirements shall be at least those specified in this sectional specification; weaker ones are not permitted. For the application of this document, the terms according to IEC 60384-1:2016 and other listed terms apply. The capacitance of an electrolytic capacitor is the capacitance of a series equivalent circuit of capacitance and resistance, measured with approximately sinusoidal AC voltage at the specified frequency. A capacitor for increased requirements is a capacitor for applications with a long service life and increased requirements for electrical properties. A capacitor for general requirements is a capacitor for applications with general requirements where the increased requirements are not necessary. The responsible committee is DKE/K 611 "Kondensatoren" ("Condensers") of the DKE (German Commission for Electrical, Electronic and Information Technologies) at DIN and VDE.
This document replaces DIN EN 60384-4:2007-12 .
