This standard deals with the safety of stationary electric cooking ranges, hobs, ovens and similar appliances for household use, their rated voltage being not more than 250 V for single-phase appliances connected between one phase and neutral, and 480 V for other appliances. The standard is based on the intended IEC 60335-2-6 Edition 6. A number of minor changes are introduced. For example, ovens with a steam device have been included in the tests. The testing of slide-in units has also been improved. Also new are different, now country-dependent, temperatures for contactable surfaces. Another change is that a rinsing agent is now added to the test liquid in the spill test. This makes the spill test more stringent. Also, ranges that are installed under a countertop will now be subject to a spill test. Special conditions for stoves in ships have been added. Finally, it should be mentioned that the representative period in tests for various appliances is defined more precisely. The responsible committee is Subcommittee UK 511.2 "Herde und Mikrowellengeräte" ("Cooking ranges and microwave ovens") of the DKE (German Commission for Electrical, Electronic and Information Technologies) at DIN and VDE.
