This part of IEC 60086 specifies tests and requirements for primary batteries with aqueous electrolyte to ensure their safe operation under intended use and reasonably foreseeable misuse. It has thus been written in accordance with ISO/IEC guidelines, taking into account all relevant national and international standards. The standard also contains a guide for device developers relating to battery compartments, as well as information on packaging, handling, storage and transportation. However, the issue of safety raises various problems. It is therefore impossible to give precise regulations and recommendations that apply in every individual case. However, this standard, if followed on a reasonable "note when applicable" basis, can provide relatively conclusive rules for safety. The responsible committee is DKE/K 372 "Primärbatterien" ("Primary batteries") of the DKE (German Commission for Electrical, Electronic and Information Technologies) at DIN and VDE.
