This standard contains fundamental requirements and information on primary cells and batteries which are considered non-chargeable dry cell batteries and which are primarily intended for use by the end users in portable, battery-powered electrical small appliances. Part 1 forms the basis of the DIN EN 60086 series and of the subsequent parts. The main content consists of basic information on definitions, nomenclature, dimensions, and markings as well as on terminal configurations, safety, test methods and environmental aspects. This new version considers recent technological developments and solutions both for batteries (additional electrochemical systems) and for battery-powered appliances (improved energy efficiency). The responsible committee is K 372 "Primärbatterien" ("Primary batteries") of the DKE (German Commission for Electrical, Electronic and Information Technologies) at DIN and VDE.
