Overview

This part of VDE 0165 gives instructions, principally of a technical nature, on the repair, overhaul, reclamation and modification of certified equipment designed for use in explosive atmospheres; it is not applicable to maintenance, other than when repair and overhaul cannot be disassociated from maintenance. Neither does it give advice on cable entry systems which may require a renewal when the equipment is re-installed. Much of the content of this standard relates to the repair and overhaul of rotating electrical machines. The reason for this is not that they are the most important elements of explosion-proof equipment, but rather that they are often the main components of repairable equipment in which, irrespective of the type of protection available, there is sufficient commonality of components to enable more precise instructions for their repair, overhaul, reclamation or modification. The amendment in this version lays down requirements for rotating electrical machines in the types of protection "Increased safety" and "n". The responsible committee is DKE/K 235 "Errichten elektrischer Anlagen und deren Betriebsmittel in explosionsgefährdeten Bereichen" ("Installation of electrical installations in explosive atmospheres") of the DKE (German Commission for Electrical, Electronic and Information Technologies) at DIN and VDE.
