This European Standard describes three test methods to determine the UV resistance of sheath materials for electric and for optical fibre cables. Three alternative methods, using a xenon arc source, fluorescent lamp and mercury vapour lamp, are given to simulate the UV effect on cable sheath. The responsible Committee is K 412 "Kommunikationskabel (Kabel, Leitungen, Wellenleiter, Lichtwellenleiter, Komponenten, Zubehör und Anlagentechnik für die Nachrichten- und Informationsübertragung)" ("Communication cables (Cables, wires, waveguides, optical fibres, components, accessories and systems engineering for telecommunication and transmission of information)") of the DKE (German Commission for Electrical, Electronic and Information Technologies) at DIN and VDE.
