This part of EN 50156 specifies the requirements and recommendations for the design, development and type testing of safety devices and subsystems intended to protect persons, property and the environment from the hazards arising from the furnaces and associated auxiliary equipment and systems heated by the thermal energy released by the furnaces. Consideration is given to the operating conditions of the furnace, the hazards associated with combustion, and the safety of the heated systems. The safety requirements for all phases of the life cycle of a given plant and the demonstration of compliance with plant-specific safety requirements are specified in Part 1 of EN 50156. The requirements for plant-specific tests during implementation, operation and maintenance are specified in Part 3 of EN 50156. The management of functional safety shall be organized and the requirements resulting from the safety life cycle shall be fulfilled for plant-specific implementation of safety-related systems. The responsible committee is DKE/K 232 "Elektrische Ausrüstung von Wärmeerzeugungsanlagen" ("Electrical equipment of heat generating plants") of the DKE (German Commission for Electrical, Electronic and Information Technologies) at DIN and VDE.
