This European Standard specifies a method for determining the effect on bond strength of damage to wood fibres caused by the action of acids from the adhesive during climatic cycling. This standard serves for assessing the compliance of adhesives with DIN EN 301, assessing the suitability and quality of adhesives for load-bearing timber structures and determining if the adhesive after bonding has a damaging influence on the strength of the wood due to chemical action. The test method is intended primarily to determine performance data for the classification of adhesives for load-bearing timber structures according to their suitability for use in defined climatic environments. The test is carried out on Norway spruce (Picea abies L.). The method is not suitable for the determination of numerical design data and does not necessarily represent the performance of the bonded member in service. With respect to DIN EN 302-3:2006-02 the note regarding the applicability of the test at low pH values has been deleted from the scope, the selection of timber has been modified, the preparation of the bonded assemblies has been rendered more precise and the description of the failure types A, B and C has been restructured. The committee responsible for this standard is NA 042-04-05 AA "Spiegelausschuss zu CEN/TC 193/SC 1 Holzklebung" ("Mirror committee for CEN/TC 193/SC 1 Wood adhesives") at DIN.
