A mechanical thermostat regulates, dependent on the temperature of the temperature sensor, a lower or higher flow over a valve in order to keep a temperature constant within given limits. This European Standard has been revised with regards to DIN EN 13611 and specifies the safety, construction and performance requirements for mechanical thermostats intended for use with gas appliances and similar use. This European Standard applies to thermostats with nominal connection sizes up to and including DN 50 with declared maximum inlet pressures up to and including 50 kPa (500 mbar) for use with one or more fuel gases in accordance with DIN EN 437. This European Standard applies to thermostats controlling the gas flow directly or indirectly through an integral gas valve and which do not require external electrical energy for their operation. This European Standard applies only to thermostats used with gas appliances which are not installed in open air. The Committee responsible for this standard is NA 041-03-16 AA "Mechanische Sicherheits- und Regeleinrichtungen für wärmeerzeugende Geräte und Anlagen (SpA CEN/TC 58/WG 13)" ("Mechanical safety and control devices for heating appliances and heat generating systems (Mirror Committee to CEN/TC 58/WG 13)") at DIN.
