Large numbers of cables are used in an aircraft. The standard DIN EN 2283 specifies tests for them. They concern the continuity of circuits, dielectric strength and insulation resistance. The tests shall be carried out on finished wiring, including connectors and, if necessary, terminals, terminal ends, junction boxes, circuit breakers, etcetera. This includes verification that the cables, bundles and insulations are in accordance with the design documents and withstand the specified limits. Damage of the components to be tested should thereby be avoided. In accordance with the various manufacturing and installing methods, the tests refer to different manufacturing stages: after assembly of cables into bundles before installation in the aircraft; after installation of bundles into the aircraft; after repairs or modifications. The following modifications have been made with regard to the previous edition: the reference to ISO 2678, the reference to the function of the systems and the limitation to "flight test measuring systems" were deleted in the list giving information about exclusions in the scope. An existing opening paragraph in clause 5 has been changed into an independent subclause. The numbering of the following subclauses was changed accordingly. The requirement that the cabling of military aircraft shall be tested after installation was deleted in the current 5.1. Therefore, this requirement has been extended to cables which are not complete yet and which are finished in the aircraft. The standard has been revised with regard to the design. This standard EN 2283:2010 has been prepared by ASD-STAN, Technical Section Electrics, Avionics, with the participation of German experts of the Aerospace Standards Committee. The responsible German standardization committee is Working Committee NA 131-04-01 AA "Elektrische Bordnetze" ("Electrical aircraft systems") of the Aerospace Standards Committee at DIN.
This document replaces DIN EN 2283:1996-03 .
