The new edition of the standard EN 2084 specifies the characteristics, test methods, qualification and acceptance conditions of single and multicore electric cables, without jackets, for general purpose with conductors in copper or copper alloy, intended for installation in aircraft circuits. The insulation of these cables is designed to withstand aircraft voltages at a frequency not exceeding 2 000 Hz. Unless specified by individual product standards the maximum demonstrated a.c. voltage of rating of these cables is 115 V rms (phase to neutral) and 200 V rms (phase to phase). They are divided into types, the characteristics of which are given in the product standards. Unless otherwise specified in the product standard, the tests defined in this standard apply. This standard differs from the previous edition DIN EN 2084:2006-10 as follows: a) the scope of application has been extended to multi-core cables and the usable maximum nominal AC voltages have been specified; b) the normative references have been revised; c) in 4.2 the statement on the corrosion effect and mildew sensitivity of the insulation was omitted; a requirement for stranding of multi-core cables was added; d) a column for the initial sample test was added to Table 1, as well as the tests EN 3475-417, -418, -512 and 514. In the case of 6.10, 6.19, 6.21, 6.31, 6.32, 6.36, 6.37, 6.38 and 6.46 there were changes in the columns "Qualification" and/or "Requirements (and/or special cases)"; e) 6.2 with Table 2 with the tests for multi-core cables was included; f) in 7. 1 the general requirements for qualification were limited to EN 9133 and necessary statements on multi-core cables were included, Table 4 on qualified cables and the extension of the qualification for multi-core cables; g) Table 7 "Adhesion of the insulation to the conductor" was extended by a column on maximum adhesion. The standard EN 2084 has been prepared by the ASD-STAN, Technical Section Electrotechnology, with the participation of German experts from DIN Aerospace Standards Committee. AeroSpace and Defence Industries Association of Europe - Standardization (ASD-STAN) has been declared responsible by the European Committee for Standardization (CEN) for preparing European Standards (EN) for the aerospace sector. The responsible German standardization committee is Working Committee NA 131-04-02 AA "Elektrische Leitungen" ("Electric cables") at DIN Standards Committee Aerospace (NL).
