This standard defines relevant requirements set out in Annex I of the EU Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC, relating to machines which were placed on the European Economic Area (EEA) market for the first time, with the intent of simplifying the means of proving conformity with such requirements. This European Standard deals with all significant hazards, hazardous situations and events as listed in clause 4 which are relevant to double blade circular sawing machines for cross-cutting with integrated feed of the saw units and with manual loading and/or unloading, hereinafter referred to as "machines", designed to cut solid wood, chipboard, fibreboard and plywood, and also these materials when covered with plastic edging and/or plastic/light alloy laminate, when they are used as intended and under the conditions foreseen by the manufacturer including reasonably foreseeable misuse. This European Standard does not apply to: * machines for cross cutting logs; * double blade up-cutting cross-cut sawing machines. This European Standard is primarily applicable to machines which are manufactured after its date of publication as an EN. This standard contains the German version of EN 1870-9:2012 which has been prepared by Technical Committee CEN/TC 142 "Woodworking machines - Safety" of the European Committee for Standardization (CEN). This standard differs from DIN EN 1870-9:2010-03 as follows: a) normative references have been updated to the new versions of the cited standards; b) in subclause 5.2 "Controls" the design requirements for control circuits in certain categories have been replaced by specifications for performance levels; c) subclause 5.2.1.2 "Use of protective devices" has been added; d) further requirements have been specified in subclauses 5.2.3 "Starting", 5.2.4 "Normal stopping", 5.2.5 "Emergency stop" and 5.2.6 "Failure of the power supply"; e) Annex C "Impact test method for guards" has been added including tests on guards' materials, unless they are in accordance with subclause 5.3.2 "Risk of break-up during operation"; f) subclause 5.3.4, "Braking" has been completely revised and braking tests have been moved to normative Annex E; g) subclause 5.3.7, "Prevention of access to moving parts" has been completely revised; h) subclause 5.4.3 "Emission of chips and dust" has been revised to include further requirements; i) subclause 5.4.11, "Isolation" has been revised to include further requirements; j) subclause 5.4.14, "Maintenance" has been revised to include further requirements; k) subclause 6.2, "Warnings and warning devices" has been added; l) informative Annex ZA "Relationship between this European Standard and the Essential Requirements of EU Directive 98/37/EC" has been deleted; m) the informative Annex ZB on the relationship between this European Standard and the Essential Requirements of EU Directive 2006/42/EC is now Annex ZA; n) the Bibliography has been updated. During the preparation the national interests were represented by Working Committee NA 060-06-01 AA "Holzbearbeitungsmaschinen - Sicherheit" ("Woodworking machines - Safety") at Technical Section "Woodworking machines" of the Mechanical Engineering Standards Committee (NAM) at DIN. Representatives of manufacturers and users of double blade circular sawing machines for cross-cutting with integrated feed and with manual loading and/or unloading, and of the employers' liability insurance associations contributed to the preparation.
