This standard contains specifications meeting the essential requirements set out in Annex I of the "Machinery Directive", Directive 2006/42/EC, and which apply to machines that are either first placed on the market or commissioned within the EEA. This standard serves to facilitate proof of compliance with the essential requirements of that directive. Once this standard is cited in the Official Journal of the European Union, it is deemed a "harmonized" standard and thus, a manufacturer applying this standard may assume compliance with the requirements of the Machinery Directive ("presumption of conformity"). This European Standard applies to self-propelled and pedestrian controlled manual and semi-manual industrial trucks. This standard specifies the additional requirements to correspond to Directive 94/9/EC for industrial trucks of equipment group II and equipment category 2 including their load handling devices in areas in which they are intended to operate of potentially explosive atmospheres of gas, vapour or mist corresponding to Zone 1 and Zone 2 or flammable dusts corresponding to Zone 21 and Zone 22. Trucks for group II suitable for explosive atmospheres of gas, vapour or mist shall be subdivided in accordance with the respective mixture of the potentially explosive atmospheres in which they are intended to operate. The subdivision is in accordance with 4.2 of EN 13463-1:2001. Trucks marked IIB are suitable for application required for Group IIA trucks. Trucks marked IIC are suitable for application required for subgroup IIA and subgroup IIB trucks, but are not suitable to be used in areas with flammable gas and vapour atmospheres containing carbon disulfide (CS2). Where hybrid mixtures are present, the requirements for gas, vapour and mist as well as for dust shall be fulfilled. This standard contains the German version of EN 1755:2000+A1:2009 which has been prepared by Technical Committee CEN/TC 150 "Industrial trucks - Safety" of the European Committee for Standardization (CEN). This standard differs from DIN EN 1755:2000+A1:2009 as follows: a) 5.1.9 "Load handling device"; b) 5.2.2 "Mechanically generated sparks"; c) 7.2 "Minimum marking"; Annex ZA (informative) "Relationship between this European Standard and the Essential Requirements of EU Directive 2006/42/EC" and Annex ZB is now Annex ZA "Relationship between this European Standard and the Essential Requirements of EU Directive 94/9/EC" have been included. The responsible German body involved in its preparation was, Working Committee NA 060-22-42-01 AA "SpA CEN/TC 150/WG 13 - Explosionsschutz bei Flurförderzeugen" ("Mirror Committee CEN/TC 150/WG 13 - Explosion protection for industrial trucks") of Section "Materials handling technology" of the Mechanical Engineering Standards Committee (NAM). Representatives of manufacturers and users of industrial trucks, and of the employers' liability insurance associations contributed to this standard.
