The purpose of this European Standard is to exemplify commonly accepted welded connections in pressurized components. It does not substitute the standardization of connections which are regarded as mandatory or restrict development in any way. Stress analysis rules are to be considered if necessary. This standard contains examples of connections welded by processes metal-arc welding with covered electrode (111), submerged-arc welding (12), gas metal-arc welding (13), tungsten inert gas arc welding (14) or plasma welding (15) (process numbers according to DIN EN ISO 4063) in steel pressure systems. Other processes by agreement. The estimation of the suitability of welded connections for special service conditions, for example corrosion, creep, low temperature and fatigue are not specially considered. During the revision of the standard DIN EN 1708-1:1999-05 the following changes have been made: a) the standard has been editorially revised; b) normative references have been updated; c) examples of use from DIN EN 12952-5 and from practice have been added; d) another example of use has been added in 4.1. The European Standard has been prepared by CEN/TC 121/SC 4 "Quality management in the field of welding". At NAS the responsible German standardization committee is Joint Committee NA 092-00-13 AA "Schweißen im Anlagen-, Behälter- und Rohrleitungsbau (DVS AG A 3)" ("Welding in the field of plant, vessel and pipeline construction (DVS AG A 3))".
This document replaces DIN EN 1708-1:1999-05 .
