Short description
This measurement technique is a set of instructions for determine the odour impact in an assessment area. The odour load is measured in this case by qualified (EN 13725) assessors or testers, who assess the ambient air for odour with different qualities at previously defined locations within certain measurement cycles. The grid measurement is a statistical survey method in which over a certain period, e. g. six months, assessors record detected odour impressions and qualities at grid intersection points in the assessment area with a certain methodology. The results can be used for calculating the odour impact characteristic for the assessment squares in the assessment area.
Overview
The standard describes the determination of odour in ambient air in an assessment area by means of inspections using grid measurements. Odour exposure is determined by qualified inspectors who test the ambient air for odour at defined locations within a specific measurement time interval. Grid measurement is a statistical survey method in which testers record odor perceptions at grid intersections in the assessment area over a specific period of time (for example, six months) according to specific procedural rules. The characteristic quantity of odor exposure (proportion of annual hours with odour impact) is calculated from the results for the assessment square in the assessment area. Such grid measurements are used to determine the existing odor exposure caused by sources outside and inside the assessment area.
