This European Standard applies to driving stock in trans-national conventional and high-speed traffic equipped with a driver's cab. It is associated with operating requirements for the operation of trains provided that mechanical interfaces in the driver's cab are affected. It provides current principles for the design of driver's cabs and takes into account the latest available research results which have been prepared in the framework of the European research project EUDDplus, as well as common technical recommendations by the International Union of Railways UIC and the Association of the European Rail Industry UNIFE. It will replace the standard DIN 5566 on driver's cabs applicable in Germany to the greatest possible extent. Three aspects are completely new: 1. The anthropometric range has been extended after analysis of current European body sizes. 2. The structure of the standard is partly based on a functional structure for driving stock allowing the definition of functional requirements without having to specify requirements for the functionary. This is advantageous if various technical solutions are directed at the same functional requirement. Requirements specific for a certain technical product are specified as system requirements in accordance with a system structure for the driver's cab. 3. Each requirement is assigned with a unique identification number. By this, an approach for requirements management is provided together with a clause on interfaces for other areas of railway applications. The standard supports Essential Requirements of Directive 2008/57/EC on the interoperability of the rail system within the Community as well as the associated Technical Specifications (TSI). The responsible German committee is NA 087-00-08 AA "Fahrzeugkopf/Führerraum" ("Driver's cab") at the Railway Standardization Committee (FSF) at DIN.
