This EN 15566 standard "Railway applications - Railway rolling stock - Draw gear and screw coupling" specifies the requirements for the draw gear and screw coupling for the end of rolling stock that has to couple with other rolling stock (freight wagons, locomotives, passenger vehicles, etcetera). This standard covers the functionality, construction, interfaces and testing including pass/fail criteria for draw gear and screw coupling. The standard describes three categories of classification of draw gear and screw coupling, (1 MN, 1,2 MN and 1,5 MN) and is based on UIC leaflets UIC 520, UIC 825, UIC 826, UIC 8271 and UIC 8272. Coupling systems between permanent coupled vehicle units are not in the scope of this standard. This document (EN 15566) has been prepared by Technical Committee CEN/TC 256 "Railway applications", the secretariat of which is held by DIN (Germany). The responsible German committee is Working Committee NA 087-00-13 AA "Kupplungen, Zug- und Stoßeinrichtungen" ("Coupling devices") at DIN Standards Committee Railway (FSF). This standard differs from DIN EN 15566:2011-02 as follows: a) review and revision of Clause 2 - Normative references; b) change in Clause 3 - "Working capacity" (3.8) has been deleted and "Middle coupling systems for permanently coupled vehicles" has been redefined as "Permanent coupling system"; c) the requirements for pressure loads for draw hooks and draw gears have been more precisely specified in Clause 4; d) in Clause 7 the required values have been changed to prescribed values and specified as SI units; e) changes have been made in Annex A with regard to implementation of the dynamic tests: - the test load for residual strength has been redefined; - the macrographic and micrographic tests have been added; - acceptance criteria have been added; - changes in Table A.2 and A.3 (the rows "Probability of survival" and "Safety factor" have been deleted). f) Annex E and Annex F have been revised in order to have a similar structure and the requirements for the raw material have been specified in the new Tables E.1 and F.1. The markings in Annex E and Annex F have been moved to the new Annex H - Marking; g) Annex G has been revised; - the maximum deviation from type test to production test has been specified; - Table G.2 "Type of inspections and tests" has been revised. h) a new Annex H - Marking with a marking system for draw hook, draw gear, draw bar and screw couplings and the new Table H.1 - Marking have been added as a summary; i) the following figures have been revised: - Figure 2 - Mounting plate; - Figure 3 - Drawbar; - Figure A.1 - Example of load change stage 1 and stage 2; - Figure E.2 - Marking of draw hook for tensile test; - Figure E.3 - Location of samples (location numbers); - Figure F.7 - Coupling link - location of tensile test (location numbers); - Figures F.8 and F.9 - Coupling nut (location numbers); - The figures from Annex E and Annex F have been moved to Annex H. j) the standard has been editorially revised.
